World Language Teachers Colloquium

June 20-22, 2019 8:30-4:45 (Saturday ends at 1:30)

Waldorf West Coast World Language Teachers Colloquium

An Initiative by the Waldorf Institute of Southern California San Diego

Theme: Developing a culture of empathy and inclusion through our praxis in Waldorf and Waldorf-inspired World Language classrooms.

Goals: Our wish is to facilitate dialog, research, and collaboration with the hope of developing a West coast summer WLT training in the future.

We see the colloquium as an opportunity to come together as colleagues to honor and deepen the profound value your classrooms contribute to developing a consciousness of cultural empathy and inclusion in our schools nationwide.

We invite you to spend three transformative days together to share, deepen, laugh, sing, and find support in our common vision as World Language teachers.

Study materials will arrive in your mailbox once you have registered!

Each language penetrates us differently and reveals human nature in a different way, which is why we must complement the effect of the mother tongue with other languages   ~R. Steiner

COLLOQUIUM COORDINATORS:

Dr. Burrows taught Spanish in the lower grades, before moving into a30+ year career in Waldorf class and kindergarten teaching. Her love of languages and desire to broaden children’s cultural awareness extended into her doctoral research in biliteracy practices in the Hispanic families of elementary students. Currently Shivani serves as pedagogy instructor at the Waldorf Institute of SoCal/San Diego, and as in-school mentor for teachers at the Sparrow Public Waldorf Charter school in San Diego.

Amanda Womble (‘Mme. Womble’) enjoys the active and animated pace of teaching the French language across the span of students in grades one through eight at the Waldorf School of San Diego. Since 2004, when she first delighted students with the nuances of French, she has developed the school’s World Language Program to its present strength. Amanda integrates her range of skills and training in Social Inclusion (Kim John Payne), Biodynamic gardening, and Extra Lesson movements, with her foundations (university level) in the French language, and multiple trainings in Waldorf World Language Teaching.
